Road base

While we can obtain any type of Road Base, from the rough Cliff Top (which contains large stones) through other high grades (often chosen for colour), the standard Road Base we stock is a brown 20mm to dust Metal Road Base.

Road Base should be spread, wet, compacted, and left to set. It can be stabilised with cement for an even more solid surface.

It's uses apart from the obvious, include repairing and pre-finishing driveways (very useful for Rural properties with long Driveways), for use under a gravel pathway or area (cost saving at about half the cost of filling the area solely with gravel) and as fence post sand & gravel mixed with cement.

Oversize Gravel

This product is approximately 20mm gravel suitable for Agricultural and Rubble Drains and often used to tidy up small passageways along the sides of houses. It is either blue or brown or a mix of these colours.

10mm Blue Metal

This is suitable for sewer pipe laying as well as for concreting. Some prefer it to 30mm gravel for drains. Can be used as a decorative gravel. It looks natural in a bushland setting as a pathway or creek bed.

Handyman or Builder's Mix

This is a mix of gravel and washed beach sand and will suit most purposes. The value in purchasing this mix as a premix is that you can generally buy the amount you need for the job rather than guessing how much sand and gravel to buy separately and mix yourself.

Packing Sand or Quarter Minus or Crusher Dust
( A versatile product with many names)

This is a blue metal 6mm to dust product which can be compacted, shaped or screeded. Its’ uses include under paving and under concrete slabs and cavity filling in segmental walls. It also makes a very good pathway and low traffic driveway. If this product becomes mixed into a lawn the grass will run through it with no ill effects.

Brickies Sand

This is high quality yellow fatty sand for achieving from cream to black mortar with the addition of appropriate oxides.

Washed Beach Sand

A white fine sand suitable for concreting, bricklaying (when used with fire clay to make it fatty), bagging as well as for children's sandpits, aviaries and novelties. This product contains no salt.

Ash

Bottom Ash is a granular powdery byproduct of the Power Industry. It's uses are many but to the Small Business or Home Owner the most popular are:- under concrete slabs or driveways as packing or fill, Lawn leveling and draining leaving a firm surface without boggy holes. It is very light weight and extremely free draining. This makes it easy for anyone to handle.

Drainage Ash

Drainage Ash is a more granular form of ash. It is less suitable for slabs but is an excellent fill for behind Retaining Walls or where drainage is a problem for pedestrian traffic. It is often being used as a cheap alternative to gravel around Ag. Pipe.

Decorative River Pebble

This 14-20mm rounded pebble is good for pathways, difficult to manage areas such as the side of the house (where weeds can grow annoyingly) as well as for garden mulches. If used as a mulch it is best to lay weed mat first to stop it mixing into the garden soil. It can be used for a creek bed, pond or fish tank. It has a natural mix of browns, whites, creams, pinks and other earth colours.

Gabion Stone

Gabion stone is 150-250mm attractive quarry rock with greys, pinks and white flecked colourings. It uses include feature stones in an artificial creek bed or landscape situation, back filling retaining walls, garden edging, retaining walls and bank stabilization It is the same as the rock used to stabilize the edge of Lake Macquarie.

White Gold Scoria

The color effect of this decorative rock is white with a gold fleck for interest. It is extremely decorative and is great for driveways, pathways and decorative features around the garden. When used with stepping stones (400mm pavers) looks great!
