About Shingledowne Nursery
Brian and Jenny Stout bought the property then called Shingledowne in 1987 and set about building the Nursery and Landscape Supplies business they now run. Initially Shingledowne grew Tubestock for the Wholesale Trade for 3 years, then as growing areas were cleared and built the Tubestock was grown on, again for the Wholesale Trade.
With the inclusion of Landscape Supplies into the business came the need to begin Retail Plant selling. This was a natural progression and a bonus for the local population as they could now enjoy quality plants at wholesale prices while also being able to enjoy the great advice available from the actual growers, qualified in Horticulture and Garden Design and Construction. You can be sure that the plants you purchase have been grown locally, are hardy and have not been under plastic or in air conditioning.
As employers, we underline the importance of Training and Safety in the Workplace. Everyone operating machinery at the Nursery has a Work cover ticket for that machine and is undergoing training of some sort be it a Certificate in Horticulture, a Bobcat Ticket, Computer Accounts training or general Nursery presentation and Customer Relations.
Have you caught up with out latest news? The Whats New page, which is available at this site, highlights important information about current pests and diseases as well as useful tips on how to construct, plant and renovate gardens. We are always looking for new products and have undertaken significant expansion in each year of operation. The most recent inclusion is a Pergola over a large paved area so that our customers may enjoy a free beverage when they visit. Why not relax while the trailer is being loaded instead of standing in the hot sun and dust. This provides a perfect opportunity to browse the many catalogues we carry on plants, bulbs, pavers, retaining walls, ponds and much more, while being comfortably seated at one of the garden settings we are also able to supply.
Where are we?
In Bonnells Bay, on the shores of beautiful Lake Macquarie, on the Morisset Penninsula. View our map. The Nursery is situated on a 5 acre property, set well back from the road with a large parkland frontage and dam.
